New Multicritera Approach for Urban Facility Management by Applying GIS

The increasing level of urbanization growth has created many environmental problems which threaten urban life in the most of developing countries. Many different spatial models are used world wide for urban facility site selection. The most common models such as fuzzy logic, regression, artificial neural network, index overlay and taxonomy which each has its advantages and weaknesses. Today urban authorities are eager to find the right ways to increase the efficiency of the urban facilities with less environmental cost. This paper tries to integrate some of the models to propose a new integrated model by using GIS. The intent here is to design a model which could be generalized to many developing world. The method is practiced by selecting an example like waste disposal to realize the model. The fuzzy logic and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) model were integrated with many socio-economic and environmental factors to select the best location for the solid waste disposal with least negative environmental impact on urban areas. The results revealed that the multi criteria models have the potential to be generalized to the all cities of the world. Moreover the model used multi factors to evaluate the different alternatives to find the most appropriated option. The present model has a high accuracy than the traditional methods which are common in developing countries.
